Pediatric Sleep & Breathing Evaluation in Miller Place, NY
Pediatric pulmonology evaluation of sleep-related breathing concerns in children and teens — with sleep study coordination and follow-up management when indicated. Serving Miller Place, the North Shore of Long Island, and surrounding Suffolk County communities.
What Is Pediatric Sleep & Breathing Evaluation?
A child who snores loudly, sleeps restlessly, or seems chronically tired during the day may be having trouble breathing at night. Sleep-disordered breathing in children looks very different from in adult, and often gets missed.
The daytime symptoms can show up as fatigue, attention problems, behavioral changes, or even academic struggles, all of which are easy to attribute to other causes. A pediatric pulmonology evaluation pulls the threads together: is this snoring just a cold, or something more? Is the daytime fatigue a sleep issue or something else?
Little Lungs of Long Island evaluates these concerns and coordinates further testing and management when needed.
Our Approach
Every sleep and breathing evaluation begins with a careful history of how your child sleeps — what parents hear, what parents see, how the child wakes up, and what the school day looks like afterward. Dr. Masson examines the child’s airway, asks targeted questions about tonsil size, allergies, and weight history, and decides whether the picture fits sleep-disordered breathing or something else.
When the evaluation suggests obstructive sleep apnea or related sleep-disordered breathing, Dr. Masson coordinates referral to an in-lab pediatric sleep study and works with ENT and other specialists when surgical or device-based treatment is recommended. For children already diagnosed with sleep-disordered breathing, Little Lungs provides ongoing pulmonary follow-up and care coordination.

Who It’s For
Who Benefits from a Sleep & Breathing Evaluation?
Sleep and breathing evaluation is appropriate for any child whose nighttime breathing is loud, irregular, or interrupted by pauses, and for any child whose daytime functioning suggests poor-quality sleep — chronic fatigue, irritability, attention problems, or unexpected behavioral changes. Common presentations include the preschooler whose snoring has gotten louder over the past year, the school-age child who wakes up tired no matter how early bedtime is, and the teenager whose grades have slipped alongside increasingly restless sleep. Evaluation is also appropriate for families whose child has already been diagnosed with sleep-disordered breathing and needs pulmonary follow-up.
Little Lungs evaluates sleep and breathing concerns in children and adolescents from infancy through age 21.
