Pediatric Asthma Care in Miller Place, NY
Specialized asthma care for children and adolescents up to age 21 across Miller Place, the North Shore of Long Island, and surrounding Suffolk County communities. Led by a board-certified pediatric pulmonologist with thirteen years of pediatric experience.
What Is Pediatric Asthma Care?
Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases for children,
and one of the most undertreated. Pediatric asthma care goes beyond writing a prescription for an inhaler. It’s the work of identifying exactly what kind of asthma a child has, what is triggering it, how severely it is affecting daily life, and what combination of medications, environmental adjustments, and family education will actually keep symptoms controlled.
At Little Lungs of Long Island, asthma is the primary clinical focus, and every plan is tailored to the specific way asthma is showing up in your child’s life.
Our Approach
Dr. Masson’s approach to pediatric asthma is built on six and a half years
of subspecialty practice at Stony Brook University and thirteen years
of pediatric medicine more broadly. Every child begins with a thorough evaluation: history, physical exam, and — when appropriate — pulmonary function testing performed and interpreted in the same visit. From there, treatment is individualized.
Some children benefit most from a step-up in controller medication; others need a step-down once symptoms have been stable. Many benefit just as much from changes at home or at school — recognizing a trigger, fixing inhaler technique, or updating an outgrown asthma action plan. Dr. Masson coordinates closely with pediatricians, allergists, ENTs, and school nurses, because asthma rarely lives in just one corner of a child’s life.

Who It’s For
Who Benefits from Pediatric Asthma Care?
Pediatric asthma care helps any child whose breathing symptoms are interfering with daily life — whether that means a toddler with recurrent wheezing after every cold, a school-age child waking up at night with cough, a young athlete who can’t finish a soccer game, or a teenager whose asthma has been called “mild” for years but still requires a rescue inhaler several times a week. It’s particularly valuable for families whose child has been on the same regimen for a while without a fresh look, and for children whose asthma overlaps with allergies or recurrent respiratory infections — presentations that benefit from a clinician who treats children every day.
Little Lungs sees children and adolescents from infancy through age 21.
Many families begin care in early childhood and continue with the practice through the teenage years.
